What is Malware?

Malicious software (Malware) is software designed to infiltrate a computer without the owner's consent. Software is considered malicious based on the perceived intent of the creator rather than any particular features.

Modern-day malware is financially motivated, can be massively distributed or targeted to specific industries and is often implemented or backed by criminal organizations. The majority of malware is able to take full control of a compromised system. This allows the attacker to steal personally identifiable information, online credentials, financial data, and proprietary information.
